We've had a bit of an unusually cold snap this year. The last couple of weeks the temperature has plummeted to as low as -15C overnight, and the natives are still in shock. We're finally coming out of it and back to normal temperatures (a warm, sunny 13C today, thank you), but it was freezing long enough for the swimming-pool to wrap itself in a very thick blanket of ice.
Now, my cat Toby is not too fond of the cold, and over the winter he normally spends most of his time indoors curled up by the heater. So imagine my surprise when I looked up from my desk and saw this ...
As I knew how thick the ice was, and how light Toby actually is, I wasn't too worried. So instead of rushing to "save" him, I dashed for the camera instead. I had guests for the week so we all stood behind windows snapping away while, for the next 10 minutes, he carried on sauntering across the pool ...
He then began scratching at the surface, trying to dig a hole through the ice ...
Fortunately that just wasn't possible. So he stomped off in a sulk instead.
Having provided us with much entertainment and speculation for the rest of the day. Oh, and something for me to blog about! Cheers.
